About

Integrity above all else.

Eric R. Thompson strives to offer sophisticated and personalized legal services to his clients without big firm rates.  Super Lawyers Magazine recognized Eric as a Colorado Lawyer “Rising Star” in 2015 and 2016.  The Rising Stars list recognizes no more than 3 percent of lawyers in Colorado each year.

With both a J.D. and an M.B.A., Eric uses his unique dual expertise to serve his clients in a variety of business and legal areas.  The blend of corporate and legal experience has allowed him to approach each project with a balanced perspective to assist his clients in managing risk and reward.  Eric has focused on health care law throughout his career.  He has worked on a wide range of matters involving the large scale and day-to-day corporate and employment needs of physicians, physician groups, and health care providers. This includes Medicare & Medicaid related issues, ZPIC and RAC audits, HIPPA, ADA, Medical Board and licensing related matters, Physician employment contracts, lease agreements, corporate formation and compliance, document retention policy implementation, federal tax resolution, and corporate litigation.  He has considerable experience examining and drafting physician contracts, general employment and vendor contracts, lease agreements, and purchase and sale agreements relating to practice acquisition. Eric also assists his clients in estate planning and wealth management and preservation by drafting wills, trusts, and power-of-attorney documents.  In addition, we serve as an outside general counsel to businesses for their day-to-day operational and growth needs.

Prior to opening his own practice, Eric was a member of Kresl & Johnson, P.C. in Denver, Colorado.  During his tenure he established a foundation of experience in the Colorado healthcare community, working with health systems, hospitals, physician groups, and individual health care practitioners.  Before joining Kresl & Johnson, Eric worked for The Kennedy Law Firm in Dallas, Texas. He represented healthcare providers in regulatory compliance matters and administrative proceedings involving Medicare, Medicaid, and other State and Federal health care programs. Matters handled include ZPIC/PSC/RAC Audits, Hospice Provider Cap Overpayment disputes, appeals to the Provider Reimbursement Review Board, and National Practitioner Data Bank reporting disputes/secretarial reviews.

Eric also gained valuable and unique experience as the Staff Attorney at Cambridge Healthcare Properties, Inc. in Dallas, Texas. Cambridge is a healthcare facility development company which develops, owns, acquires and manages medical buildings across the United States in association with leading health systems and physicians. Eric partnered with and assisted Cambridge's general counsel with regard to all legal issues involving Cambridge. Additionally, he worked closely with the Chief Operations Officer and Chief Marketing Officer in developing business development strategies, including in-depth health system research and market analysis. The blend of corporate and legal perspectives that his time at Cambridge provided gave Eric an excellent foundation for understanding and anticipating the issues facing health care providers today.
